Curtain back up at puppet theatre
The Puppet Theatre in Norwich was told that its Arts Council funding would cease after this month. Norwich Town Close Estate Charity has now come forward with funds to ensure the theatre can continue. The venue was founded in 1980 and is currently one of only two dedicated puppet theatres in England. The funds, combined with transitional support offered by Arts Council England East, Norfolk County Council and Norwich City Council, will provide a secure base for the venue to remain open, theatre officials said. Funds to save the theatre have also come from individuals, schools and companies, and people becoming Friends of Norwich Puppet Theatre. Theatre manager Ian Woods said: "A big thanks has to go out to everyone in Norwich and beyond, and all in the world puppet community, who have supported us through this difficult period, the challenge now is to ensure a secure long term financial future for the theatre." The sourcing of funds will continue to pay for ongoing costs, new productions and refurbishment of the theatre. 20.03.08 |
