Man held over mosque egg throwing

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after eggs were thrown from passing cars at worshippers leaving a mosque in Surrey after evening prayers.

Officers said the incident in Hook Road, Epsom, on Sunday was being treated as racially aggravated assault.

A police presence was increased outside the mosque following the incident, which happened after worshippers had offered prayers to mark Ramadan.

The arrested man, from Epsom, remains in custody helping with inquiries.
